Elaine is a lifelong crafter, proficient in needlecrafts — sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, embroidery — and knowledgeable about many other crafts.
She parlayed her crafting hobbies into early career positions as a Crafts Editor for McCall’s Needlework & Crafts and Seventeen magazines, where she was responsible for producing the editorial pages for a wide range of home sewing and crafts projects, including designing and writing or vetting instructions. Later, she wrote scripts for the home sewing television show, Sewing Today.
More recently, she has technical edited and copy-edited crafts books for several major publishers.
In 2007, Elaine created All Ears Earmuffs, designing and selling DIY kits for knitting and All Ears Earmuffs crochet earmuffs with (or without) earphones.
She is accredited as a knitting instructor by the Craft Yarn Council of America and taught knitting at crafts retailer Michael’s for several years. She was a wholesale member of the since-disbanded The National Needlework Association (TNNA), where she exhibited and presented a workshop on publicity for professional crafters. She has exhibited All Ears Earmuffs at Vogue Knitting Live.
In 2001, Elaine was featured in an article in Interweave Knits magazine, describing her proclivities for both knitting and fashion.
